About Troops 181 & 9181

Scouts BSA Troops 181 & 9181 are located in North Hills of Pittsburgh and offer scouting opportunities for ALL youth. Scouts typically live in Ross Township and West View and attend school at North Hills School District Schools, but this is not a requirement. This page is an overview of Scouting, our Troops, and how to join in the fun!

When and where do we meet?

Our troops meet all year, weekly on most weeks on Mondays at 7:30PM during the school year and an altered summer schedule. Most meetings will take place at or on the grounds of Berkeley Hills Lutheran Church in Ross Township.

Who can join?

Scouts BSA membership is open to ALL youth who are at least 10 years old and have completed the fifth grade. Boys are registered to Troop 181 and girls are registered to Troop 9181.

Cub Scouts is open to any boy or girl who is at least 5 to 11 years old and are of kindergarten age or not yet completed the fifth grade. If you are too young for Scouts BSA you can check out Pack 181.

Membership FAQ

What is the difference between Troops 181 and 9181?
Troop 181, celebrating our 80th year, is our boy troop. Troop 9181, formed in 9181, is our girl troop. Although they are separate troops, they work together and attend many events together.

What packs do you accept crossovers from?
We accept crossovers from ANY pack, though many of our scouts are from Pack 181.

Can my scout join your troop if they were a Cub Scout but didn't earn their Arrow of Light?
YES, they can still join, as long as they meet the age requirements.

Do you accept transfer scouts?
Yes, we do!

What if my child has no scouting experience? Can they still join?
Yes, they can still join.

How can you join?

You can join Scouting and our pack 1 of 2 ways.

You can join by filling out an application online at 181 Be a Scout or 9181 Be a Scout. You will need a credit card to join this way.

You can come to any troop meeting and see what we are about and fill out an application in person and pay with a check. Email info@181scouting.org to verify meeting time and place.
